Fashion Forward Designer Incubator INC

ABOUT US

Where Creativity Becomes Enterprise and Designers Become Founders. Fashion Forward Designer Incubator Incorporated (FFDI) is a Canadian fashion entrepreneurship and designer development platform dedicated to helping emerging creatives turn their talent, ideas and collections into sustainable fashion brands. Founded in 2017, FFDI was created with a simple belief: creative talent should not be limited by a lack of access, industry connections or business knowledge. We work with emerging fashion designers and creative entrepreneurs who are ready to move beyond having a great idea or collection and begin building the foundation of a viable business. Through mentorship, professional development, entrepreneurship education, industry exposure and strategic opportunities, we help designers strengthen both their creative identity and their capacity as founders.

Our approach recognizes that becoming a successful designer requires more than creativity. It requires an understanding of branding, pricing, business operations, marketing, intellectual property, financial readiness, professional presentation and how to navigate the fashion industry with confidence. That is where FFDI comes in. We create an environment where designers can learn, build, test, connect and grow while gaining access to professionals and resources that can help move their businesses forward. More Than an Incubator FFDI is built around the development of the designer and the entrepreneur behind the brand. Our programming brings together fashion, business and professional development through mentorship, workshops, industry conversations, brand development, founder education, market preparation and opportunities for professional visibility. Our model is designed to meet designers at different stages of their development while helping them build the knowledge, confidence and professional tools needed to take the next step.

Designers may receive support in areas including:

  • Business and entrepreneurship development

  • Brand identity and positioning

  • Marketing and digital presence

  • Pricing and financial readiness

  • Intellectual property and business education

  • Mentorship and founder development

  • Professional photography and portfolio development

  • Buyer and market readiness

  • Industry networking and relationship building

  • Mental health, wellbeing and sustainable entrepreneurship

  • Public presentation and professional visibility

From Creative Talent to Fashion Enterprise

FFDI believes that designers should leave our programs with more than exposure. They should leave with stronger businesses. Our approach encourages designers to understand who they are creatively, who they serve, how their brand creates value and what is required to build a sustainable enterprise around their work. Through structured development, mentorship and real-world application, designers are encouraged to continuously: Understand. Build. Test. Measure. Refine. Grow. The goal is not simply to help designers create a collection. It is to help them develop the skills and infrastructure necessary to continue building long after the program ends.

The Fashion Entrepreneurs Showcase

Our signature Fashion Entrepreneurs Showcase provides participating designers with an opportunity to bring their development to life in front of audiences, industry professionals, media, buyers and potential collaborators. But the runway is not the destination. It is a professional milestone within a much larger entrepreneurial journey. The Showcase gives designers an opportunity to present their creative identity, communicate their brand story, build professional content and strengthen their visibility while developing relationships that can continue beyond the event. For FFDI, success is not measured only by what happens on the runway. It is measured by what designers are positioned to do after they leave it.

Our Mission

Our mission is to equip emerging fashion designers and creative entrepreneurs with the knowledge, mentorship, professional resources and industry connections needed to transform creative talent into sustainable fashion enterprises. We create accessible pathways for designers to strengthen their creative identity, develop entrepreneurial capability, build professional confidence and pursue meaningful opportunities within the fashion industry.

Our Vision

Our vision is a fashion industry where talented emerging designers have equitable access to the knowledge, networks and opportunities required to build successful and sustainable businesses. We envision a more inclusive Canadian fashion ecosystem where creativity and entrepreneurship work together, diverse perspectives are represented and designers from historically underrepresented communities have greater opportunities to build, own and grow their brands.

Our Values Creativity

Creativity is at the heart of fashion. We encourage designers to develop distinctive creative identities, experiment with ideas and build brands that authentically reflect their vision.

Entrepreneurship

Creative talent deserves strong business foundations. We help designers think beyond the collection and develop the knowledge, tools and confidence required to operate as entrepreneurs.

Access

Opportunity should not depend on who you know or where you come from. We work to reduce barriers to mentorship, professional knowledge, industry networks and meaningful opportunities.

Collaboration

Fashion businesses are not built in isolation. We believe in connecting designers with mentors, entrepreneurs, professionals, peers and industry partners who can contribute to their development.

Diversity and Inclusion

Fashion is strengthened by different cultures, identities, experiences and perspectives. We are committed to creating opportunities where diverse creative voices can be seen, supported and celebrated.

Sustainability

We encourage designers to think intentionally about how their businesses are built, including responsible practices, long-term decision making and sustainable approaches to growth.

Excellence

We are committed to delivering meaningful, high-quality experiences that challenge designers to strengthen their work, raise their professional standards and continue evolving as creatives and entrepreneurs.

MEET THE
FOUNDER

Hi, I’m Taisha Freeman, Founder of Fashion Forward Designer Incubator.I created FFDI in 2017 from a belief that talented designers should have access to more than a runway. They should have access to the knowledge, mentorship, connections and opportunities needed to build something sustainable from their creativity. My passion has always been rooted in helping people recognize their potential and giving them the tools and opportunities to move it forward. Over the years, that passion has allowed me to bring together my experience in entrepreneurship, fashion, community building and more than a decade of Human Resources leadership to create a different kind of development platform for emerging designers.

My professional career has given me extensive experience in talent development, mentorship, leadership, training, organizational development and building programs that help people grow. Through FFDI, I have been able to apply those same principles to the creative industry by helping designers think not only about what they create, but about the businesses and careers they are building around their creativity. Since launching FFDI, I have had the opportunity to work alongside emerging designers, entrepreneurs, mentors, creatives and industry professionals while building relationships across fashion, business, media and community. Those relationships have helped create opportunities for designers to strengthen their brands, expand their networks and present their work to new audiences. What began as a platform focused on giving emerging designers greater visibility has continued to evolve into something much bigger.

Today, my vision for FFDI is centred on developing the entrepreneur behind the brand. I want designers to understand their value, confidently tell their story, know their customer, understand their numbers, protect their ideas, build meaningful industry relationships and develop brands capable of growing beyond a single collection or showcase. I also know first-hand that access matters. Growing up in a low-income Toronto neighbourhood and being raised by a single Jamaican mother shaped the way I think about opportunity. It taught me that talent exists everywhere, but access to networks, mentorship and resources does not.

That understanding continues to influence how I lead FFDI and the type of ecosystem I want us to build. My goal is not simply to help designers be seen. I want them to be prepared when the opportunity arrives. Through FFDI, I will continue creating spaces where emerging designers can learn, build, connect and grow while developing the confidence and business foundations necessary to turn creativity into enterprise. Where creativity becomes enterprise and designers become founders.
